Weatherfield Academy in Dunstable is truly a special school, in every sense of the word. Not only do they cater solely for students with special educational needs, they have a special place in the heart of the local community, the pupils, parents and staff.
Their recent Ofsted report highlights how they are excelling in their abilities and delivering on the school’s main ethos of “Become the Best Person They Can Be”. Ofsted rated Weatherfield Academy’s personal development, behaviour and welfare of students as outstanding with an overall good rating for the school.
Thanks to the hard work and dedication of Head Teacher, Joe Selmes and his committed team, Weatherfield Academy has established strong relationships with local businesses and truly integrated into the local, thriving community of Dunstable, which in turn has enriched the learning of every single one of their 118 students.
Special mention is made by Ofsted to Mr Selmes, who they say “has been highly proactive in establishing links with businesses and the local community, which have greatly improved the school’s curriculum, facilities and resources.”
Parents wholeheartedly agree, with one parent commenting that Weatherfield Academy is “an amazing, inspiring place to be that encourages children to maximise their potential for future adult life.” Every single member of staff is proud to work at Weatherfield as they too strive to “become the best person they can be” because, as they say, the children are the centre of everything that they do.
Joe Selmes, Head Teacher explains “At Weatherfield Academy, I have a team of talented and committed staff who make a difference to our pupils’ lives, every day. Due to their hard work and unwavering commitment, we have created a caring, nurturing and supportive environment to help our pupils excel and succeed at every opportunity.”
Mr Selmes continues, “Our expectations are very high. We know that every single one of our pupils has great potential and it is our job to support them in realising that potential to the full. We are able to achieve this, thanks to the wonderful support and long-term commitment we have from businesses and the wider community in Dunstable. Thanks to them, our pupils now benefit directly from fantastic facilities and vastly improved resources.”
“I would encourage anyone in our community to come to our school and see what you have helped to create. Support is always welcomed and through working with the local community, individuals and businesses, I know that we can make Weatherfield Academy even more special. Working together, we can realise our vision and ensure that the next generation are all going to be the best people they can be.”
